Athletics
April was an exciting month for the Pike Hoopsters. After finishing the regular season with a winning record they fought their way through three tournament games in the Intramural Basketball Tournament to get to the final. They came up short, however, as they fell by three points to the eventual champion team, Duffy. The football team finished the 2002 Dee Zee Bowl with a 2-2 record. The soccer team got their first ever win in Phi Mu Soccer by defeating Kappa Sigma 1-0 in the Third Annual Phi Mu Tournament.

A New Plateau
Iota Beta now has a membership of 30. Four new brothers are now in the bonds. Adam Araujo, Curtis Jue, Jeremy McNeil and Josh Williamson comprise the Alpha Eta Class. The focus quickly shifts to officer installation for the Fall 2002 semester and summer rush to establish the Alpha Theta class.
March Birthdays

Iota Beta initiates Delta Pi at SJSU
Iota Beta Pikes were in attendance at the Chartering of the Delta Pi Colony at
San Jose State. This event was held on April 19-20 in San Jose. Fresno State Pikes will reciprocatedtheir storied relationship with SJSU by helping to charter them. As some may recall, Delta Pi helped Iota Beta receive its charter back in 1986 so this was a grand oppurtunity for FS's Pikes to showcase the brotherhood that San Jose helped create. Both chapters conducted many exchanges with each other last semester to cultivate relations.

Brothers Andy Vasquez, Brian Campbell and Mike Howard all played integral roles in the initiation ceremony. Iota Theta chapter from Cal Poly SLO and Kappa Nu from UOP were also present. The evening culminated with congratulatory speeches by Expansion Coordinator Justin Buck and Golden West Regional President John Silberstein. Iota Beta Founding Father and current Delta Pi Chapter Advisor Rudy Rodriguez and International President H. King Buttermore III also respectively commended the newest chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha on its accomplishment.
Pool with Prince
Demonstrating true brotherhood this semester is Dr. Jim Prince, the Iota Beta Faculty advisor. Dr. Prince is Associate Proffesor of Molecular Genetics at Fresno State. He is a special initiate of Iota Beta Chapter. Brother Prince has unselfishly and positively promoted Pikes on campus the last two years. From inviting brothers and prospects to pool in the USU to hosting summer events Dr. Prince is worthy of displaying the letters of Pi Kappa Alpha.

On most Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons during this semester he can be found downstairs in the USU playing pool. Pikes who are interested can join him for a game or two. He also can be seen in front of the science and business buildings playing frisbee on Friday afternoons. "Dr. Pepper" was initiated in the Spring of 2001. His positive demonstration of Pi Kappa Alpha long before his initiation earned him the right to enter the bonds.

Brother Farnsworth relocates to east coast
Alumnus Larry Farnsworth has returned to the Fresno area. He has relocated from the East Coast where he was doing work for congressmen as well as campaign efforts. Brother Farnsworth graduated from Fresno State in 1998 with a degree in Political Science. He is a member of the Pi class and is engaged to a lovely gal named Karla. Congratulations Brother Farnsworth!

Football Tailgates
Football season is only four months away. Tickets are in high demand after the success of Fresno State last season. Also in demand are red lot passes for tailgates. Iota Beta was unlucky last semester in obtaining a pass due to the high volume of demand. In the next four months the Pikes will be working hard to obtain a pass this season so that they can enjoy traditional pregame tailgates with Alumni. Should Pikes be successful in getting a red lot pass alumni will be informed.
